Music Ensemble Flyer 2021
A flyer advertising MGA’s various music ensembles to current students. While this is a very straightforward flyer, I’ve included it because I only had a couple of hours before the client needed it in-hand. So I picked a good san-serif font with lots of weights, Futura PT, established the visual hierarchy with size, and slapped a great colorful background to help draw attention. I also later made a version that used a pattern in the background instead of color so that the requesting professor could print more without breaking her budget on color ink. Designed in Illustrator.
Knight Strong logo
A generic “hype” logo designed for the Office of Admissions. This was a fun opportunity to get out my comfort zone. Most of what I had designed up to this point had been crisp, clean layouts sticking to the MGA brand. But for this one, fun and excitement was the goal. The sword+shield concept was solidified early on, then I focused on roughening it up with a good paintbrush-style font (appropriately titled “Good Brush”) and using Illustrator’s default rough stroke brush to great effect on the background shapes. This logo was used on several giveaway items for new students like water bottles and T-shirts as well as a few social posts. Designed in Illustrator.
UNDERSTAND logo
A logo designed for a faculty-led UNDERSTAND initiative. The project’s idea was to give volunteer staff members special training on how to direct students to proper authorities for issues of diversity and inclusion depending on what issue they’re facing and what kind of help they need. I started with circles since the shape inherently represents unity. The multiple overlapping shapes combined with the gradients are meant to represent multiple voices (student+faculty) coming together in agreement. Color is used to represent diversity. Designed in Illustrator.
BeWell@MGA logo
A logo designed for the “BeWell@MGA” mental health initiative in 2021. Since it was advertising mental health resources for students, I focused on friendly, welcoming elements like the handwritten font and a softer pink>purple gradient. Fun fact: the ‘@’ is custom-made. The font I chose didn’t include several glyphs like the ‘@,’ so I took one from a similar font and then tweaked the shape and added the internal lines to match the current font. Designed in Illustrator.
Georgia Aviation Alliance Logo
A logo designed for the Georgia Aviation Alliance, a state caucus. MGA’s office of Marketing was asked to design the logo as a favor given the university’s status as the state’s ‘flagship school of aviation.’ The gold dome of the state capitol building in Atlanta was a clear choice, though it took several revisions to get the level of building detail right. While the GAA was never officially formed, this logo was still cleared by potential alliance members in Georgia state legislation. Designed in Illustrator.
Cartoon Duke
An athletics-style Knight head. While its original purpose was to accompany a small flyer in 2022, I knew that something like this would quickly be co-opted into other projects, so I made an extra effort to create a final product that would stand up to extended scrutiny. It was a learning process; I did a fair bit of research into athletic identities since that was the requested style, and it went through more revisions than most other logos I’ve made. While it isn’t officially part of the MGA branding, it has grown to have a life of its own, being used widely around campus and beyond including a large print on the cafeteria windows in Cochran and a long-term billboard facing I-475 North. Designed in Illustrator.
Student Holiday Card 2019
A postcard sent to current MGA students during the holiday season of 2019. I started with this great stock photo of the wreath, but it took a fair bit of work in Photoshop to create this final look. I used a gradient map to make it monochrome while pushing the contrast a bit further and a 2nd gradient map with a mask to color the bulbs. I also recreated a large portion of the lower half, complete with re-painted shadows, to remove a bow that didn’t match the tone I wanted. Finally, the MGA flame logo was added with a blend mode to apply the background’s texture. Image made in Photoshop, final card made in InDesign.
No Fee November Postcard 2023
A postcard advertising No Fee November to prospective students in Fall of 2023. This was created to coincide with recent updates to Admissions collateral, mirroring the fonts, colors, and overall style. Background image made in Photoshop, other content made in Illustrator.
Unused President’s Holiday Card 2024
One of several possible designed created for the President’s Holiday Card sent to university stakeholders in 2024. While it wasn’t used, I’m still proud of the work I put into the design; planning the spaces for the ornaments and snowflakes and learning how to use Illustrator’s Smooth tool to clean up rough curves. I’m especially proud of the center snowflake composed of the MGA flame, though I created that several years prior for another holiday project. Created in Illustrator.
StudentHolidayCard2021_Thumbnail
A holiday card sent from the University to current students. I found this great stock photo of the snowglobe, then carefully edited out the previous contents and replaced it with MGA’s flame. It was a bit tricky getting the lighting right, but I like how it turned out. Image created in Photoshop, other copy placed with Illustrator.
Applied AI Postcard – 2025
The front design for a postcard advertising MGA’s Bachelor’s Degree in Applied AI, sent out to prospective students in 2025. I started with the centered “AI” in a circle, then outlined the text and altered the letter shapes to be more exciting; making that A’s crossbar a curve that leads to the circle inside the I. The colored lines represent what AI is best at: making sense and order of large, disparate sets of data. I then added background texture from a generic ‘techy’ stock image and added a slight glow to most elements to add a bit of flair. It was a nice change of pace to make something that wasn’t just purple……though this image was later repurposed and made purple for several social media posts.
MBPL Ad – GA 500 2023
A half-page ad for Georgia 500 magazine that ran in 2022, advertising MGA’s new Master’s Degree in Professional Leadership. I tweaked a stock photo found on Unsplash.com to increase the shadowed area, allowing for more text. A serif font was chosen to reinforce the professionalism associated with a Business degree paired with MGA’s brand font, Gotham. Designed in Photoshop.
